Last week Dr. Jake Beierle, our post-doctoral fellow, traveled to Montebello Quebec to attend the prestigious North American Pain School (NAPS). At the weeklong event, Jake shared his work assessing migraine models using the Kumar Lab’s machine learning empowered scalable ethological assays. At Montebello Jake networked with pillars in the field, including Dr. Jeff Mogil, Dr. Ishmael Abdus-Saboor, and Dr. Greg Corder, discussing the state of the field, the critical need for new measures of pain in rodents, and opportunities to improve basic pain research. He also presented the concluding statements in the graduation night debate, culminating in his team of post-docs to victory! Look for him at the International Association for the Study of Pain’s World Congress in August!
Oh, and he went white water rafting. Sometimes it’s hard being an academic…
